Tiffani, Leah, Kaitlyn, Kayleigh and Caitlin at YES

A Great Time at YES

A few weeks ago five members of VQHYA headed down to Amarillo, Texas for the AQHYA YES Conference. The Youth Excellence Seminar, or YES as the locals call it, is a leadership workshop where youth from all around the country come together. There were different speakers including Grant Baldwin and Daniel Stewart that spoke to the youth about different aspects of the quarter horse world. Grant discussed the goal setting and achieving aspect while Daniel talked about the physical aspect of the horse world. Both were very good speakers and continued to amuse the crowd with ways to get out of a ticket and posting without a horse.

Caitlin Ackerman, Tiffani Schunk, Kayleigh McDonnell and Leah Thomas were all delegates who attend YES, while Kaitlyn Gawet went along for the experience, even though she had attend last year as well. Both Kayleigh and Leah were running for Regional Director Positions for Region Six and were both elected in. The two young ladies were the only ones running for the position and so are Region Six’s two directors.

Leah went on to run for AQHYA Secretary, a position that she was also elected into. Even though she was the only one running, she still had to do a speech. Overall the whole conference was a great experience and everyone had a lot of fun. The youth met people from all over the country and have nearly “Facebook friended” everyone at the conference.

If you would like more information about the 2011 YES Conference please contact Leah Thomas or Kayleigh McDonnell.
